[ viper . skin ]

The front cover says "A Thing Divine, So Noble: a zine by natrix", and has a scribbly line drawing of a small crab.

The next page has a line drawing of a stingray, and a passage from The Tempest with most of the words blacked out, leaving the words:
a fish? A fish:
a fish, a very ancient fish,
a kind of
strange fish!
this fish
this
strange beast

The next page has another stingray line drawing, and the un-blacked-out text says:
This gallant stingray
a thing divine,
so noble.

(the word "stingray" is made up of letters from several different words)

The next page has a line drawing of a shark, and the remaining text says:
thy father
a sea-change
a shark!

(again, "shark" is made up of letters from different words)

The next page has line drawings of a fish and a crab, and the remaining text says:
The mistress which I serve
O, she is
a crab
and he's a sea bass

(sea bass is also made from scattered letters)

The next two pages have line drawings of three anglerfish, and the remaining text says:
You are three
sea
monsters
You
Are
Of
the loud
waters
invulnerable
And you three
from
the sea
the sea creatures

("monsters" is made from scattered letters, but nothing else is)

The back cover says "Made for the Zine Idea Generator Jam 2022:
'Make a fanzine that turns an existing work into a meditation on sealife'
The existing work I used was The Tempest by William Shakespeare (except this bit, this is Macbeth)", and there's an arrow pointing to a small paragraph of blackout poetry which is at a 90-degree angle to the rest of the text. The remaining text in this one says 'Yes; a sea lion can bathe in sea.'".
